Columbus Delivers.

Columbus Coffee was awarded the Supreme Franchise System of the Year at the recently held New Zealand Franchise Industry Awards evening. The awards programme is a best practices audit of top performing franchise systems using the internationally recognised Baldrige criteria.

The panel of Judges commented The highly contested Supreme Franchise System of the Year went to Columbus Coffee for their excellent application that comprehensively addressed all criteria items and demonstrated highly effective work systems, coupled with very sound leadership. The entry from Columbus was considered by the judges to have a strong focus on performance management, supported by a comprehensive suite of measures showing impressive levels of performance across all results areas.

It takes more than fantastic coffee and delicious food, great customer service and an enticing friendly store environment to succeed in the competitive hospitality market. says Graeme Tait, Managing Director of Columbus Coffee. These are the desired outcomes of our business. To confidently deliver upon these outcomes we had to build a business system that bought together the unique requirements of our customers, our products, our brand and our delivery system - the Franchise business model. To win the Top NZ Franchise System award is a great thrill and recognition that our team have created something special.

Columbus Coffee was also represented in the best Food and Beverage Franchisee category. Ryan Clarke owner of Columbus Onehunga and Jayson Hayde owner of Columbus Smales Farm in Takapuna were both recognised as being in the top 3 finalists on the night.

One of the most gratifying aspects of the business is watching Franchisees build their businesses and achieve recognition in their communities says Graeme. Most recently franchisees Nigel Heney and Alister Lilley, owners of Columbus Ashburton, were awarded the Top Cafe in the Ashburton Business Enterprises Awards programme. It has exceeded our expectations, adds Alister. We have had to increase the size of the cafe to accommodate customer demand.

Columbus Coffee is also a multiple award winner of The Retail Association of New Zealand Top Shop and Westfield Retail Award programmes.
